Establishing Scope 3 Emissions Benchmarks to Drive Sustainability
Future Works has successfully completed a significant project to develop Scope 3 emissions benchmarks, using data provided by its manufacturer clients. These benchmarks mark a critical step in supporting sustainability goals by enabling measurable progress toward carbon reduction targets and a net-zero future.
Using the 2022 Net Zero Baseline Report, we will continue to track progress, ensuring reductions are achieved and transparently reported. As part of this commitment, data will be submitted to the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), which provides a global standard for tracking, modelling, and identifying best practices for emissions management.
Supporting Manufacturers with Verified Data
The creation of Scope 3 benchmarks was made possible through close collaboration with our manufacturer clients. Many manufacturers contributed verified Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)-compliant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data. For those without existing data, Future Works provided support using Målbar, a specialist tool that calculates product climate footprints in line with EU PEF rules.
These benchmarks allow Future Works to offer detailed, verified carbon data for manufacturers, empowering them to meet growing client demands for emissions transparency. By aligning with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the Planet Mark methodology, this initiative ensures all data is evidence-based and actionable.
Driving Sustainability Across the Value Chain
The availability of Scope 3 benchmarks is a powerful tool for manufacturers, offering critical insights into the climate impact of their operations and products. This data facilitates informed decision-making and helps manufacturers align with their sustainability strategies, reducing emissions across their entire value chain.
With these benchmarks, Future Works is enabling its partners to better understand their carbon footprint, meet sustainability targets, and respond to the increasing demand for environmentally responsible solutions in the furniture industry. Together, we are creating a clear path towards a more sustainable, net-zero future.
